- ➤ At McLane Children's Hospital, Lorenzo (a 10-year-old therapy dog) leads a holiday toy drive to ensure every patient has a Christmas gift. Donations are accepted at the hospital front desk until Friday (Dec. 19) with local businesses aiding families during the season. KCEN-TV
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Temple Civic Theatre launched a new acting troupe for performers 55 and older called Silver Stars in its holiday variety show Hometown Holiday. The show opens Thursday, Dec. 18 and runs through Sunday, Dec. 21 (with Saturday matinee and evening performances). KCEN-TV
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Temple Education Foundation announced the Glenn A. Johnson Scholarship for Temple High School graduates pursuing higher education at Temple College. The new award will offer financial aid to eligible students (supporting future local success). Temple Daily Telegram
- ➤ Private and religious schools in Central Texas are registering for the Texas Educational Freedom Accounts, a new school choice program that will offer nearly $10,000 per year (up to $30,000 for special needs and $2,000 for homeschooling) starting Fall 2026. Temple's Cultivate Academy is among the schools reaching out as registration opens early February. KXXV
- ➤ A Temple High School student was suspended and removed from campus Monday after an altercation with a teacher, and the student's mother voiced concerns about the incident. Temple Daily Telegram
