COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Scott Huntley created a blessing box in his front yard at 1906 Broken Shoe Trail to give free food and personal care items to families during the government shutdown. The box operates 24/7 — neighbors drop off donations and volunteers deliver meals to those who cannot visit.  KCEN-TV
  • American Legion Post 133 honored veterans at a luncheon where keynote speaker David Sage, a U.S. Army veteran, shared his personal journey and reflections on his service. Sage admitted he once doubted his worthiness to speak to fellow veterans—an honest look at his struggles and commitment to the community.  Temple Daily Telegram

ECONOMY NEWS

  • The 42-day government shutdown has cost Central Texas millions as federal workers missed paychecks and benefits were disrupted. Dr. Ray Perryman said spending will drop until the economy recovers over the coming months — with future healthcare votes possibly affecting local finances further.  KXXV

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Today, the Temple Independent School District Board of Trustees met to discuss plans for campus improvements and recognize school achievements—marking their first meeting since the bond unofficially passed.  Killeen Daily Herald

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Central Texans in Temple saw the rare Northern Lights on Wednesday night when the sky lit up in vivid green and magenta—Dr. Trey Cade from Baylor University said a stronger solar flare is expected tonight if residents move away from city lights. This display reminded locals how unusual such space events are in Texas.  KCEN-TV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Fort Hood suspended an Army medical provider from Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center on October 17 after patients reported misconduct and the CID began investigating the allegations — additional measures were taken to ensure patient safety.  KCEN-TV

  • Central Texas high school athletes from Robinson, Lake Belton, Riesel, Texas Wind and Groesbeck signed letters of intent to play college sports, marking an important milestone in their athletic careers. Their commitments cover baseball, softball, volleyball, cheer and golf (each reflecting years of hard work) and open the door to new collegiate challenges.  KCEN-TV
