COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Temple officials announced that the long-delayed Georgetown Railroad conversion project will begin construction in January with a $3M Rails to Trails project—transforming the old rail line into a trail for pedestrians.  Temple Daily Telegram
  • UMHB Football hosted its annual Touchdowns game to celebrate Down Syndrome Awareness Month—Hope Teeters, who first attended at age three, ran proudly across the field on her own. Her family said the event brought the special needs community together and showed how every participant can shine.  KCEN-TV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • SNAP benefits will stop on Nov. 1 because the government shutdown cut off funding for the program, affecting about 3.5 million Texans who rely on them. Local food banks, already under strain, are ramping up support and seeking community help—officials say urgent action is needed to feed those at risk.  KCEN-TV
  • The Texas Department of Public Safety told families to secure firearms, wear bright costumes, and stay on sidewalks for safe trick-or-treating—advice aimed at keeping children safe—and urged drivers to slow down and focus on the road while using the iWatchTexas app to report any suspicious activity. HEALTH NEWS

  • Amy's House in Temple has provided housing for transplant patients since November 2020 and now also welcomes oncology patients. The home is less than one mile from Baylor Scott & White and helps patients get treatment quickly — building a support network during their fight against cancer.  KXXV

  • Temple Wildcats will host Copperas Cove Bulldawgs Friday at Wildcat Stadium in a game with major playoff implications as both 6-2 teams led by first-year coaches work to secure a playoff spot. Temple is coming off recent losses while Copperas Cove builds on a comeback win — kickoff is set for 7 p.m.  KCEN-TV
