- ➤ Temple’s Draughon-Miller Central Texas Regional Airport will host Lunch at the Airport this weekend—featuring airplane rides and an invitation to wear costumes as guests enjoy a unique dining experience. Temple Daily Telegram
- ➤ After Jenna Scott and her friend Michael Swearingin were murdered in January 2019, her family launched Priceless Beginnings to help domestic violence victims and keep her memory alive. Temple Police held a donation drive thru yesterday from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the parking lot next to the police department at 209 E Avenue A to support the nonprofit and three other local groups. CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Local organizers are hosting several fall festivals with spooky themes this weekend—offering a preview of Halloween celebrations even though the holiday is still over a week away. The events will provide local families with unique, seasonal experiences. Killeen Daily Herald
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Temple College partnered with the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services to launch its first program that trains students as child protective investigators with just an associate's degree. The program will open next semester (30 applicants so far) and aims to fill a staffing gap in child protection. KCEN-TV
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Local military families in Harker Heights are using the Armed Services YMCA food pantry as the government shutdown enters its fourth week—12,000 pounds of food are stocked for service members and their families. The pantry is open on Thursdays at 6:30 a.m. to help those in need. KXXV
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Central Counties Services began a new LOSS Team program to support those coping with suicide loss in Milam, Bell, Coryell, Hamilton, and Lampasas counties. They will hold volunteer training on November 1 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at their Temple facility — the program aims to reduce the grief period by providing help within weeks. KXXV

- ➤ Local high school football games across Central Texas moved their kickoffs today from 7 p.m. to times between 5:30 and 6 p.m. because of weather concerns to help teams and fans avoid heavy rain and lightning. KCEN-TV
