COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Gary ISD will hold its annual Fall Festival on Saturday, October 25th with family fun including a Haunted Trail, Costume Contest, Cake Walk and Bingo and BBQ fundraiser. Tickets cost $5 per bundle and free parking is provided in the cafeteria.  Killeen Daily Herald

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Temple High School students and an educator earned SkillsUSA’s National Statesman awards — the honors recognize their skills in technical education. SPJST will host a Czech heritage celebration in Waco on Sunday — the event will showcase Czech culture.  Killeen Daily Herald
  • Temple students, staff and parents filled Pittenger Fine Arts Center for the Belton ISD board meeting where members approved the first library council purchase recommendation — and recognized staff and students with candy awards. GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Records at Wilson Recreation Center show the facility has been infested with rats for months — Temple officials are now working to control the rodent problem.  Temple Daily Telegram
  • Central Texas farmers feel the strain as the government shutdown enters its fourth week, freezing USDA programs that provide loans, crop reports, and disaster help. USDA core operations will resume today—raising hopes that funding delays may soon ease.  KXXV
  • The City of Temple will host a Household Hazardous Waste Collection this Saturday (October 25) to let residents safely dispose of hazardous items.  Killeen Daily Herald

HEALTH NEWS

  • Central Texas nonprofit Pink Warrior Angels offers financial and emotional support to cancer patients nationwide by helping individuals like Temple patient Janelle Dozier, who is four weeks post-surgery at Baylor Scott and White. The group also serves military families and survivors who now help the newly diagnosed, showing that local community support makes a difference in fighting cancer.  KCEN-TV
