COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ Temple hosted the first Tanglefoot Music & BBQ Festival last month and did not use property or sales tax dollars—tourism taxes funded the event. City officials said a second festival will be planned for the near future. Temple Daily Telegram
- ➤ At Abundant Life Church of God in Killeen, volunteers doubled their food order to nearly 10,000 pounds to help military members, veterans and families amid the ongoing government shutdown. They will distribute food today from 9 a.m. to noon at 1210 Florence Rd—ensuring no one in need is turned away. KCEN-TV
ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ Bell County authorities reported a grass fire burning near Hackberry Road — over 200 acres have burned near Holland while crews from Temple and other areas work to contain the flames with no injuries or building damage reported. KCEN-TV
- ➤ A fast-moving wildfire burned 193 acres near Salado on Oct. 13—fire crews from several agencies responded quickly, and the blaze is now 90% contained with no homes or injuries reported. KCEN-TV
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ The 51st annual Texas Renaissance Festival opened Saturday at Todd Mission and will run every weekend through Nov. 30 on a 55-acre fairground where jousting, sword fights, and costumed vendors create a 16th-century village scene. Organizers forecast about 550,000 visitors and urged guests to plan ahead for parking and bring cash — as some vendors do not accept credit cards. KCEN-TV
