COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Central Baptist Church will host a Senior Adult Outing on Thursday, October 2, with lunch at Daniel Boone’s and a visit to the Tyler Rose Garden. Buses will leave at 10:00 a.m. and seniors may sign up in the foyer or call the church office at (903) 693-7181.  Killeen Daily Herald
  • The Lonestar Guardians, a volunteer group led by Salado contractors Brock Holland and Ron Cunningham, have been searching in Kerr County since two weeks after the July Fourth floods for eight-year-old Cecilia Steward and 63-year-old Jeff Ramsey who remain missing. Salado Mayor Bert Henry said the volunteers work from dawn to dusk, relying on personal funds—to support ongoing efforts and form a nonprofit—for help with the mission.  KCEN-TV

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Milam County commissioners will impose a 90-day burn ban starting Sunday evening due to dangerous drought conditions—Bell County will monitor dry conditions as rainfall remains limited.  Temple Daily Telegram

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Moffat Volunteer Fire Department held its first live burn training session over the weekend at the future site of Moffat VFD Station 2 near Temple to give volunteer firefighters hands-on practice with live fires. Lieutenant Chad Hartman said the training will allow new recruits to progress from no certification to full qualification—cutting the need for outside training facilities.  KXXV

  • UMHB women's soccer is raising funds for teammate Jayme Dowell’s father, Jimmy, who was diagnosed with prostate cancer in May and will begin radiation treatment on Oct. 14. The Crusaders launched a Kick Cancer fundraiser—selling T-shirts and holding a bake sale on Oct. 11 to help with his medical costs.  KCEN-TV
