COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Temple residents will join National Clean Up Day this week to help clean local parks, streets, and public spaces as the city works to reduce persistent trash issues from last year. Volunteers will have chances to participate in cleanup efforts over the coming days.  Killeen Daily Herald

  • A company announced plans to build a $700 million hyperscale data center campus in South Temple — the project is expected to boost business growth and create new technology jobs in the area.  Killeen Daily Herald

CULTURE NEWS

  • Temple celebrated the inaugural Tanglefoot Music & BBQ Festival downtown over the weekend, drawing more than 7,000 people. City officials expect the event to grow and boost tourism in 2026.  Killeen Daily Herald
  • Bishop Daniel Garcia, a central Texas native who grew up in the Brazos Valley and whose family attended Blessed Sacrament Parish in Cameron, was installed as the sixth bishop of the Diocese of Austin on Thursday—he is the oldest of four children.  KXXV

  • J.H. Hines Elementary has transformed its library into a wellness space with a $50K gift from Baylor University, the Big 12 Conference, the College Football Playoff Foundation and School Specialty — a room featuring an air hockey table, reading nook and activity area where teachers will guide students in managing feelings.  KXXV

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Burton cross country team raced on Thursday at the Lake Belton Bronco Invitational in Temple with the varsity boys finishing between 28th and 45th and the Lady Panthers running a separate two-mile course at Crossroads Park—Zach Purvis led his team with a 21:26.3 finish. The team will return to action today at Somerville’s Yegua Invitational at 8 a.m. with the varsity girls starting at Overlook Park.  Killeen Daily Herald
