EDUCATION NEWS

  • Temple ISD renamed Lamar Competition Field to Brad Dusek Field on Tuesday—honoring the alumnus who played for Temple ISD, Texas A&M, and in the NFL and died in 2024 at age 73.  KXXV
  • Rebekah Koh, a junior at Harker Heights High School, joined 96 other musicians on a month-long tour in Asia with the National Youth Orchestra that began in July. The group played seven concerts in famous halls + Koh served as an interpreter in Korea while meeting renowned violinist Ray Chen.  KCEN-TV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Temple, Texas — Hannah Ochoa, a local mother, pushed for changes in building codes after her three-year-old son drowned on July 17 when he unlocked a low door to a family pool, and she has since started a petition to require higher door handles near water hazards. This move comes as she calls on lawmakers to improve safety and prevent similar tragedies.  KCEN-TV

  • Local coaches said Central Texas 1A football is growing stronger as teams secure top spots in Dave Campbell's Texas Football rankings—coaches credit the athletes for their skill and consistency across sports.
