BUSINESS NEWS

  • Texas home bakers now can use dairy ingredients, raise their yearly cap from $50,000 to $150,000, and sell to local businesses under SB 541 (expanding cottage food opportunities) that took effect Sept 1. Local baker Gracey Bunnell said the law lets her use her true buttercream recipe without changes (removing old rules that kept her home address on labels).  KCEN-TV

CULTURE NEWS

  • Temple officials announced plans for the inaugural Tanglefoot Music and BBQ Festival, which will offer an expanded fan experience with country music and barbecue — a destination event drawing visitors from the region.  Killeen Daily Herald

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Homebuyers in Temple face a tight housing market as only 28% of listed homes fall within the median price range—just under $300,000—due to high mortgage and interest rates. Realtor Chris Meza advises buyers to work with a trusted team and be patient in finding a home.  KXXV

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Temple ISD earned national recognition — its sixth award in a row — by receiving a Certificate of Excellence in Financial Reporting from the Association of School Business Officials International.  Killeen Daily Herald
  • Temple College will honor a longtime professor and accomplished artist this week by naming a new gallery after him — the college noted there was no gallery when he first joined and his work as a historian, teacher and artist is being celebrated.  Killeen Daily Herald
  • Rep. Pat Curry said Senate Bill 12 makes parents sign forms before their children get school health and counseling services while Temple ISD gathers consent forms—parents will choose nonemergency care for their kids.  KCEN-TV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Bell County Commissioners Court approved participation in the Central Texas 9-1-1 district — a move that eliminates state fees so cell phone bill fees now directly fund emergency services for residents.  Killeen Daily Herald
