COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ On Aug. 26, Duke from Heart to Home Animal Adoption Center helped the fire department—checked out library books, answered calls with TTX Connect, cared for parks, and worked with Public Works to celebrate National Dog Day. The City said Duke was adopted after his long day and noted that several other dogs remain available for adoption. KCEN-TV
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Bell County superintendents are implementing Senate Bill 13 to increase parental oversight in public school libraries—with Temple ISD adding a 30-day public review before books are approved—and the rule will take effect on Sept. 1. KXXV
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Temple City Manager Brynn Myers testified before the Texas House today against a proposed bill that would lower the automatic election trigger—expanding voters' options to challenge rising taxes. Myers said the change may impact local tax policy. Killeen Daily Herald
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ A Midland woman found a spot on her breast and visited Baylor Scott & White’s Early Detection Clinic in Temple where she underwent scans and tests in one visit. She received benign results within two days—much faster than the typical wait and with less stress. KXXV
- ➤ Bell County Public Health District is changing after closing both the Temple immunization clinic and the Copperas Cove WIC clinic due to funding cuts, and the former director was dismissed following reviews in July and August. Interim director Robert Kirkpatrick said the board will soon post a new job description and that mobile appointments are planned to help maintain essential services. KCEN-TV
