CRIME NEWS

  • Police said a man was hospitalized Sunday afternoon after a shooting on North Ridge Street in Lampasas—witnesses reported the suspect fled before officers arrived, and the victim was taken to Baylor Scott & White Medical Center in Temple as investigators noted no ongoing threat to the public.  KXXV

CULTURE NEWS

  • Friends of Temple Public Library are preparing to rehome thousands of books at its annual Labor Day sale in the McLane Room—each week before Labor Day the space transforms into a treasure hunt for visitors. This event will offer a new way to enjoy and donate literature in our community.  Killeen Daily Herald

EDUCATION NEWS

  • A Temple teacher who dropped out of high school has returned twice—first to earn her diploma and then to become an English teacher who helps students graduate.  Temple Daily Telegram
  • The Texas Education Agency released the 2024-25 public school ratings last Friday — school campuses in Temple, Belton, and Holland received A ratings while other campuses received different grades. The agency rates both entire districts and individual campuses to offer detailed feedback.  Temple Daily Telegram
  • Bell County 4-H is now holding open enrollment, giving local youth a chance to join the program’s long tradition of learning by doing—details on registration will be shared soon.  Killeen Daily Herald

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Construction crews are closing a portion of Hogan Road—part of Phase 5 of the South Pea Ridge Road project in West Temple—starting today for one month.  Killeen Daily Herald
  • Temple property owners will pay about $20 more per month in taxes next year as a revised proposal increases the tax rate by 7.10 cents—an 11.33% hike despite slight downward adjustments. Local officials say the changes are set to raise revenue when the new rates take effect.  Temple Daily Telegram
