- ➤ On Aug. 9, UMHB partnered with H-E-B and One More Child to pack meals and write encouraging notes for Belton ISD students who face food insecurity during the annual Love CTX event. Nearly 450 students prepared 28,000 meals from H-E-B's donation of over $16,000—meals that will be distributed through the Project Heartbeat program over the coming year. KCEN-TV
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The Temple ISD Board of Trustees voted to send two proposals to the November ballot—one for school security upgrades and the other for adding classrooms at a combined cost of $122.45 million. The proposals will be voted on November 4 to meet the district's urgent needs for safety and additional student capacity. KXXV
- ➤ Temple ISD has seen improved attendance, discipline and academics since introducing cell phone lockers at its high school—a policy that meets a new state ban on cell phone use. Nearly 9,000 students returning next Tuesday will benefit as officials report a 22% drop in absences, an 18% decline in referrals and a 44% decrease in at-risk graduation rates—showing a clear impact from the change.
