EDUCATION NEWS

  • Midway ISD proposes a $175.3 million bond issue to fund repairs and upgrades across its schools — officials promise it will not raise tax rates. District leaders say the measure will support facility improvements including building a new elementary school and gym expansions and is expected on the November ballot.  KXXV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A local vape shop that sells THC products filed a lawsuit against the city, police and Bell County Sheriff's Office over a June raid (dubbed an evidentiary search) that it says damaged its business. The shop alleges officials acted improperly and seeks damages for lost income.  Temple Daily Telegram
  • Temple has authorized $917,400 for professional services—awarded to engineering firm Kasberg, Patrick and Associates, LP—to design 30% of the Midway Drive to Thornton Lane Corridor.  Killeen Daily Herald

HEALTH NEWS

  • Health officials urge parents to schedule wellness checks soon as school districts require students to have complete vaccine records before enrollment—Belton ISD needs up to 10 shots and House Bill 1586 will allow easier access to exemption forms starting Sept. 1.  KCEN-TV
  • The Central Texas Veterans Health Care System held its ribbon cutting ceremony on Thursday for the expanded Temple Veterans Clinic after nearly two years of work and a $5 million investment — the clinic will soon open to serve veterans.  Killeen Daily Herald

  • The Midway 12U All-Stars won a 10-0 run-rule victory over New Mexico in the Little League Southwest Regional on Monday with pitcher Owen Leal leading both the mound and the batting lineup. The team will face Texas East today at 10 a.m. at Marvin Norcross Stadium.  KCEN-TV
