  • A community benefit has been organized for 8-year-old Jenna Burgess after a devastating July Fourth flood claimed the lives of her mother, husband and two sons, with events including volleyball tournaments + live music. The event will take place on Sunday, July 27 from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. at Legacy Beach Volleyball at 8631 Cedar Creek Rd in Temple.  KCEN-TV

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Kennedy-Powell Elementary in Temple was named Project Lead the Way Launch Distinguished School for the eighth consecutive year—highlighting nearly a decade of academic excellence during the 2024-25 school year.  Temple Daily Telegram

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A Fort Hood military family's ceiling collapsed in July and they were offered a move to a unit with a history of raw sewage backups lasting seven years — the family backed out and officials are now reviewing housing policies. Fort Hood leaders said they are working with maintenance teams to prevent further problems.  KCEN-TV
