COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Miso Pick + Mix in Temple is hosting a fundraiser by donating 15% of every purchase this week to the Taylor Family Support Fund to help the family of late Fire Captain Marvin Taylor. Taylor died on Mother's Day when his car was hit from behind after leaving the hospital where his fifth child was born, and community members have honored him.  KCEN-TV
  • VFW Post 2148 in Central Texas will expand veteran services and community outreach under Nola Saldana—its first Native American female district commander—once funding and land become available for a larger facility.  KXXV

CRIME NEWS

  • Temple police are investigating a crash at West FM 93 — Treiber Drive that killed a motorcyclist on Tuesday morning when the vehicle driver left the scene then returned to cooperate as officers gathered evidence and closed the area.  KXXV
  • A jury resumed its work on Monday after a 23-week break and found a former Army corporal guilty of murdering his ex-girlfriend — a Fort Hood sergeant.  Killeen Daily Herald

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Temple ISD earned the Texas Art Education Association 2025 District of Distinction Award — for excellence in visual arts education — last week. The award recognizes the district's strong visual arts curriculum.  Killeen Daily Herald

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Temple's Purchasing Division won the Achievement of Excellence in Procurement Award from the National Procurement Institute, Inc. for the third consecutive year—showing its ongoing commitment to strong purchasing practices.  Temple Daily Telegram
  • Temple lawmaker Hillary Hickland helped pass a law that will require anyone convicted of invasive visual recording to register as a sex offender—closing a gap in current protections for victims. The law will go into effect on Sept. 1 and applies only to new offenses.  KCEN-TV
  • Firefighters from Killeen and Fort Hood trained in swift water rescue techniques at Miller Spring Park in Belton on a muggy afternoon—water near 3,500 CFM provided live conditions for boat rescues and raft drills amid flood concerns. Battalion Chief James Wallace said the training builds muscle memory for quick decisions in emergencies and urged residents to heed flood safety guidelines.  KXXV

HEALTH NEWS

  • Falls Community Hospital in Marlin has introduced the LUCAS device—an automated CPR machine that helps ease staffing shortages during emergencies. The device can perform compressions for up to 45 minutes and supports the hospital's efforts under Texas House Bill 18.  KXXV
