BUSINESS NEWS

  • Andy Weiner, founder of RockStep Capital, hopes to buy Temple Mall by the end of this year to help revitalize the aging center suffering from management issues—plans for improvements are expected soon.  Temple Daily Telegram

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Temple firefighters at Station Two moved from the station after black mold was found early in July (air samples on July 1 confirmed its presence) to keep them safe. The city said it will build temporary living quarters at Station One in two weeks and start fixing Station Two in late 2025 or early 2026 which might slow response times.  KCEN-TV
  • Temple City Council approved a 10-year, $2.75 million contract with Segra to deliver dark + lit fiber optic services to the city.  Killeen Daily Herald
  • A U.S. District Judge denied Temple’s motion to dismiss a lawsuit filed by Michael Dean’s family against the city and Officer Carmen DeCruz, who shot Dean during a December 2019 traffic stop— the lawsuit claims that a lack of proper policies led to constitutional rights violations.  KCEN-TV
