  • Families in Crisis received honors and a grant from the Texas Council on Family Violence last week— the awards acknowledge its work supporting families.  Killeen Daily Herald
  • A local military fraternity hosted a fish fry fundraiser at Lions Club Park on Saturday to benefit senior members, retirees—and homeless veterans.  Killeen Daily Herald

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar said that cities, counties, transit systems and taxing districts in Central Texas will get $1.2 billion in sales tax funds in June. The payment may show mixed economic signs as local budgets are planned.  Killeen Daily Herald

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Army announced it will change the local post’s name from Fort Cavazos back to Fort Hood as many Harker Heights residents still use the old name — officials plan to implement the change soon.  Temple Daily Telegram
  • Temple Fire & Rescue junior cadets finished training in fire safety, first aid and flag etiquette after enduring heavy rains and Texas-sized thunderstorms + proving their resilience.  Killeen Daily Herald
  • A proposed electric transmission line is set to extend from east Bell County to Schleicher County—spanning several hundred miles—and will be presented to the public for review.  Temple Daily Telegram
