COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ Elm Mott homeowner Diane Buxkemper had her house flooded for the fifth time since 1993 after Wednesday night’s storms, and her insurance company said rising groundwater—an act of God—leaves her to cover the repairs herself. KXXV
ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ A rollover crash on Highway 36 near Morgan’s Point on June 12 at 5:01 a.m. trapped one driver who was rescued and taken to Baylor Scott & White Medical Center for evaluation – emergency crews urged drivers to be cautious on wet roads. KXXV
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Bell County approved a federally funded purchase of the M-Vac DNA system to boost investigations by collecting DNA from crime scenes and evidence — the system will be housed by the Bell County Sheriff’s Office and shared with police in Harker Heights, Belton, Temple, Killeen and Waco, with training set to begin in June. KCEN-TV
- ➤ County Commissioner Louie Minor will host a public town hall at Texas A&M University — Central Texas on June 26 at 6:00 p.m. to review Bell County’s budget and discuss property taxes, hospital and emergency service districts, and community priorities. KXXV
- ➤ Temple city officials approved a $1 million plan—investing in Flock and Axon license plate cameras—to target catalytic converter theft as precious metals drive crime. Police report the technology is already lowering theft rates and will improve investigations. KXXV
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ The UIL Council met Wednesday to review proposals for changes in UIL academics, athletics, music and policy—sanctioning water polo as a UIL sport and expanding baseball playoffs to include 3A and 4A schools. The move expands a best-of-three series format previously limited to larger schools and will affect local teams next season. KXXV
