EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Belton ISD held a graduation ceremony in a hospital room at Scott and White Hospital in Temple for 19-year-old Ava Castillo, who is battling stage 4 brain cancer and could not join her class at school. Teachers including Principal Claudia Knox and English teacher Brandy Kopriva celebrated her with a cap, gown and diploma presentation as she continues intensive radiation treatment and prepares for further care. - ➤ In May, the Temple College Foundation hosted a Kentucky Derby event at the Frank W. Mayborn Civic and Convention Center where over 300 people attended for dinner, drinks, and activities and raised $128,333 to support students. The foundation will host the Johnson Brothers Golf Tournament on Oct. 27 — continuing its efforts to fund student scholarships. KCEN-TV
- ➤ Temple ISD reports that it has projected over $3.6 million in savings on bond debt, a move expected to save millions more over the next few years—demonstrating the district's strong financial management. Temple Daily Telegram

- ➤ The CRDAMC is set to welcome its new facility dog Solomon—a 2.5-year-old black lab who mastered 36 commands—at a ceremony tomorrow at 3:30 p.m. Meanwhile, Waco PD announced that its K9 officer Andor retired after sustaining two neck and one chest injury during a pursuit on May 28. KCEN-TV
