ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ A 78-year-old Houston man drowned at Belton Lake after he and his wife were separated from their boat while swimming near Morgan’s Point Resort, with witnesses saying the scene was scary (the Bell County Sheriff’s Office and Texas Game Wardens are investigating). KXXV

- ➤ Joel Valley, an education reporter at the Temple Daily Telegram, was honored by the Temple ISD board — receiving the 2025 Texas Association of School Boards Media Honor for his coverage of local schools. Killeen Daily Herald
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The City of Harker Heights closed its Finance Department (10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday, June 9) to attend the funeral of longtime employee Susan Crawley, who worked there for 15 years. The city asked residents to wear pink (her favorite color) on Monday to honor her memory. KXXV
- ➤ Temple will change its recycling and garbage collection schedules to address the growing population and rising resident frustration—city officials say the new plan will boost service efficiency. Temple Daily Telegram
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ KXXV 25 Cares partnered with Carter BloodCare to hold a community blood drive that aims to register 20 to 25 donors at each location to help hospitals meet transfusion needs. As of yesterday, donor counts were 11 at Killeen Auto, 6 at Bob Mills Temple, 1 at Cinemark Waco, and 2 at Slovacek's West — figures that highlight the ongoing effort to combat summer blood shortages.
