CULTURE NEWS

  • The Texas Heritage Museum at Hill College will receive the National Medal for Museum and Library Service on Tuesday, July 21 in Washington, D.C.—the first community college museum to earn the honor, according to executive director John Versluis.  KXXV
  • Temple Civic Theatre celebrated its 60th anniversary Saturday night (marking its milestone) with a warm family reunion-style gathering in downtown Temple. EDUCATION NEWS

  • Two Temple High School business students made school history by medaling in a national business leadership competition, marking the first time the school has earned recognition at this event (their achievement is expected to inspire future participants).  Killeen Daily Herald

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Temple's water plant is the first in Texas approved to use ultraviolet light alone to inactivate viruses in drinking water at the Temple Membrane facility. The new treatment meets state requirements and will help keep local water safe.  Killeen Daily Herald

  • State Rep. Hillary Hickland and local landowners oppose the proposed Bell County East-Big Hill 765-kV transmission line project over concerns about property rights and transparency; community members await further details on its impact.  Temple Daily Telegram

  • Baylor Scott & White Research Institute will lead an $18 million kidney disease study, with local nephrologist Dr. Tariq Shafi noting Temple’s emerging role in advancing treatment. More details on the study will be announced later.  Killeen Daily Herald
