COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Temple will host the Tanglefoot Music and Barbecue Festival—set for September 12 and 13 in Temple—featuring award-winning music and authentic BBQ from over a dozen joints; single-day ticket sales begin at 10 a.m. Friday, May 16.  KXXV

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Captain Marvin Taylor III of the Killeen Fire Department died on May 11 when a speeding vehicle rear-ended his car after he left an Austin hospital at 1:05 a.m. following the birth of his fifth child—but a procession honored him Monday along I-35 from Austin to Temple and he will be moved to Copperas Cove today.  KCEN-TV

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Four sets of family members—including two father and son duos, one husband and wife, and a brother and sister—will walk the stage together at Texas A&M University-Central Texas on May 16. The ceremony marks the first time the university hosts four family groups graduating at once (in Killeen).  KCEN-TV

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The National Weather Service warns that some lakes in Central Texas are near full while others are very low — a sign that a drought may come. Bell County has set water rules and officials say fixing leaks and turning off faucets can help save water — steps that matter as summer nears.  KCEN-TV
  • Experts advise residents to check their AC units for signs of strain — like long run times or frozen lines — and change filters as temperatures may reach 90 degrees or more this week. This step is important to prevent long delays in getting replacement parts when needed.  KXXV

  • Temple City Council member Susan Long—first elected in May 2017—has resigned her District 3 seat effective today due to health concerns.  Temple Daily Telegram
  • Today, Rep. Pat Curry returned to give a legislative update in which he discussed issues like water, education, and criminal justice reform — along with other topics. He outlined points that could shape upcoming state decisions.  KCEN-TV

HEALTH NEWS

  • Dr. Augustin and Dr. Garth opened a new clinic in Harker Heights — a center that combines traditional and holistic care to treat the whole person. The clinic held its grand opening Saturday at 2025 Memory Ln Ste 300 and offers services such as chronic disease management, hormone replacement therapy and natural supplements.  KCEN-TV
