CRIME NEWS

  • Last week an attempted break-in damaged three 40-year-old stained glass windows at First Lutheran Church in Temple—police said the suspect did not enter the building and church leaders are now planning how to restore the historic windows.  KCEN-TV

EDUCATION NEWS

  • State lawmakers are planning to expand Texas’ Teacher Incentive Allotment program to include more educators beyond the roughly 6% currently receiving raises; some school leaders worry the focus on test scores may foster unhealthy competition and leave many valuable support staff out (critics say the proposal still does not address fair funding for all).  KXXV

  • Today, heavy rain and storms drenched Central Texas with a severe thunderstorm watch in place — flooding was reported in Temple, Salado, and Airville while a tornado touched down in Cameron.
