  • This weekend, Temple will host three events—the Fallen Heroes 5K, Tacos and Tea-Quila Festival, and Día del Niño—after a month of April showers. The events will offer community activities for local residents as they welcome May flowers.  Killeen Daily Herald
  • City officials approved a $3,000,000 spend from the hotel/motel tax fund for the upcoming Tanglefoot Music and Barbecue Festival—set for September 12 and 13 downtown with Parker McCollum headlining as some residents express concern over the high ticket prices.  KXXV

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A house on Sand Flat Lane was struck by lightning on Wednesday evening just after 6:45 p.m. and caught fire, causing extensive damage to a home still recovering from last year’s tornadoes — emergency crews arrived quickly to control the blaze — as neighbors watched in shock.  KXXV

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Over two dozen Killeen ISD Fine Arts students earned statewide top honors at the State Visual Art Scholastic Event over the weekend. Twenty-eight art pieces by 27 students advanced from regional competitions and Finn Brantley of Chaparral High School received the Gold Seal Award, given to only 7% of entries.  KCEN-TV
