- ➤ A year ago, tornadoes hit Temple on May 22 and forced families to live away from their homes for 10 months because of delays in repairs and insurance. Homeowners like Roberto Figueroa and Brian King have returned to rebuilt homes and are planning a neighborhood barbecue (a sign that neighbors are helping each other). KCEN-TV
- ➤ KCEN and Temple College have planned the Kentucky Derby Fundraiser on Saturday, May 3, at 5 p.m. at the Mayborn Convention Center on North 3rd Street—attendees will enjoy a livestream of the Churchill Downs race, dinner from Pignetti’s, appetizers, drinks, a live auction, a stick horse race and a best hat contest. CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Belton Police investigated a hit-and-run on southbound I-35 under the Shanklin Bridge on Wednesday morning when a vehicle struck a man (at 10:04 a.m.) and fled; the injured man was taken in stable condition to Scott & White Medical Center in Temple while traffic was diverted for about 40 minutes.
