COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The III Armored Corps is hosting Freedom Ball to mark the nation’s 250th anniversary, inviting Central Texas residents to join the historic celebration (the Phantom Warriors are leading the event). More details on the time and location will be announced soon.  Temple Daily Telegram
  • Bell Community Foundation has awarded $50,000 in grants to nine local nonprofits to help families manage rising utility bills and meal shortages this summer. The funding will support community organizations in easing the cost burden during the hot season.  Temple Daily Telegram

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Anderson-Shiro CISD is moving ahead with bond-funded projects that include a new elementary school for 770 students and converting the current elementary into a junior high to ease traffic congestion and support community growth. Officials said construction will be mostly complete by June with summer move-ins.  KXXV
  • The CTHBA Parade of Homes released the 2026 Joshua Smith Memorial Scholarship winners list today, recognizing local students and builders for their achievements in the community.  Temple Daily Telegram

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Temple Mayor Tim Davis defended the data center plans in a letter on April 29 — stating that new centers will use advanced cooling and safety measures while local organizers reported gaining nearly half the 5,000 needed signatures to recall two city officials.  KCEN-TV

SPORTS NEWS

  • MCH Bulldogs boys and girls track teams won state titles at Springtown ISD's Porcupine Stadium on Apr. 25. The girls captured their first state championship while the boys earned a third title in four years (making program history after competing against 12 schools).  KCEN-TV
