  • Texans can shop tax-free for emergency supplies during the state’s sales tax holiday that starts at 12:01 a.m. Saturday, April 26 and ends at midnight Monday, April 28 — the tax holiday is expected to save shoppers about $2.3 million and covers key items like household batteries, fuel containers, flashlights under $75, hurricane shutters and emergency ladders under $300, and portable generators under $3,000.  KXXV

EDUCATION NEWS

  • A new book project titled 'Rural Schools of East Bell County Texas: A Pictorial' documents how rural schools closed over fifty years ago + it uses pictorial records to show the legacy of these schools.  Killeen Daily Herald
  • On Wednesday, the Texas Education Agency released the long-delayed 2023 school accountability ratings using an A to F grading scale to show school performance for the 2022 to 23 academic year—legal challenges had held up the data. The ratings are now public while the agency works on sharing current year details.  KXXV

  • A Temple beekeeper rescued stray hives from businesses & homes and urged property owners to avoid spraying chemicals to protect the bees. He noted that spring rains have helped flowers bloom and increased bee activity in the area.  Temple Daily Telegram
