GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Texas Senate passed Senate Bill 36 that would create a Texas Homeland Security Division within the Department of Public Safety, and the bill now moves to the House for further debate. The division will focus on immigration enforcement, organized crime and protecting state infrastructure — it will hire 23 full-time employees at a cost of $7 million by August 2027. KXXV
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ Two high school bowling teams from Killeen ISD competed at the Dick Atkinson High School State Bowling Championships held earlier this month. Chaparral’s boys won the district title and placed 14th at state — while Ellison’s boys advanced to state and placed in the top 20, with several bowlers also qualifying for regional and individual competitions. - ➤ Salado boys soccer won its first state championship after an overtime goal gave the Eagles a 3–2 win against Castleberry—senior Luke Anderson earned UIL MVP honors as the team capped four years of hard work. This historic win marks a milestone for the program that had trailed until the extra period. KXXV
