COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Bell County Farmers Market will open in May in Temple and Belton to offer fresh local produce. The market will run Tuesday and Thursday mornings at West Temple Community Park and Saturdays in Belton — vendors set prices with zucchinis at $5 per basket and eggs at $6 to $8, and they look forward to reconnecting after last year’s tornado.  KCEN-TV

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Authorities confirmed that 27-year-old Jonathan Garcia of Temple was killed when he was struck by a train on a bridge above Waco Road in Belton on April 8th—police said no foul play was suspected.  KXXV

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Gas prices in Texas have risen 13 cents per gallon over the last month due to refinery maintenance and switching to summer-blend gasoline—reports show the Killeen-Temple-Fort Hood area is now the priciest while statewide averages remain about 40 cents lower than the national rate.  KXXV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Texas Senate Committee approved HB 3336, a bill that offers an 8‑cent tax credit per pound for spent grain donations to support local agriculture — a move aimed at helping Texas craft breweries offset rising costs. Rep. Brad Buckley said the bill will head to the House floor for final approval.  KCEN-TV
  • A Texas Senate bill would require sheriffs in counties with over 100,000 residents to help ICE target criminal immigrants—Lampasas County and others are already coordinating with ICE and the bill passed the Senate by a vote of 20—11; it now moves to the House and counties that do not comply could face lawsuits from the Attorney General’s office.  KXXV

SPORTS NEWS

  • Today the Salado boys soccer team will face Castleberry in the 4A D1 state championship at 6:30 p.m.—a forfeit in the state semi-finals gave them their first appearance in the championship game.  KCEN-TV
  • Troy Baseball Association announced that the baseball field, formerly known as the Small Field, was renamed Maynard Field to honor the Maynard family who were lost at sea in Alaska in August 2024 + Colton and Brantley Maynard played for the association. A dedication ceremony will be held on Saturday, April 12 at 9 a.m. + family members are expected to attend.  KCEN-TV
  • Temple High School junior Kaurie Holleman won three events last weekend and is competing today at the area meet with a chance to reach regionals. She ranks in the top 100 for the 400-meter dash and in the top 10 for the long jump nationally — showing her strong local talent and drive.  KCEN-TV
