COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Central Texas is busy this weekend as Waco hosts Easter Bunny sessions at Richland Mall, a downtown Farmers Market on Saturday, and a Food Truck Showdown from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Meanwhile, Killeen holds Spring Fest today from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Belton runs a community service drive today, while new Temple businesses—Safe Splash Swim School, William Hoyt Bagels and Brew, and Wags Dog Grooming and Spa—open to serve local residents.  KCEN-TV

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Texas AG Commissioner Sid Miller said a federal bailout for farmers is likely to happen soon—although there will be some setbacks at first—and that tariff funds will help keep farmers in business if conditions worsen.  KXXV

EDUCATION NEWS

  • On April 3, Killeen ISD announced that Dr. Frederick Lilly resigned as principal of Roy J. Smith Middle School—however, Lilly rejected this resignation offer at 5:45 p.m. as reported by 25 News. The board’s statement is now under investigation.  KXXV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • City officials in Temple approved a $3.5 million change order to boost the Outer Loop North Phase III project. The extra funds will help advance the city's largest ongoing road improvements — a key step for easing traffic.  Killeen Daily Herald

  • Temple Police Department announced Friday, April 4 that K9 Zico retired after six years of service as a dual-purpose dog trained in tracking, narcotics detection and apprehension. He will join his handler Officer Nash’s family (partnered since 2019) as a full-time pet (leaving police duty).  KCEN-TV

SPORTS NEWS

  • Salado boys soccer advanced to the state championship — the UIL ruled a Progreso player ineligible and forced a forfeit that eliminated Progreso from the playoffs. The title game will be held April 10 — marking the program’s first appearance in a state title match.  KXXV
