- ➤ 6 News is running a contest to let Temple residents win a family 4-pack of tickets to the music festival at the Central Texas State Fair. Viewers must listen for a daily keyword on Texas Today from 6 a.m. to 7 a.m. from April 1 through April 4 (winners will be announced on April 7 and the fair is set to run from April 10 to April 13). CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Killeen police and the Army Criminal Investigation Division are investigating the death of 20-year-old Lucila Nieva, who was found unconscious at Copper Mountain Apartments on March 21—officials have not confirmed any link to Fort Cavazos. KXXV
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Dr. Rodney Duckett, an Army veteran and community facilitator, is pushing for new safety measures for Killeen ISD after a fatal stabbing at Roy J. Smith Middle School. He has proposed Vets on Duty—an initiative to enlist retired military personnel for monitoring school hallways—and 27 local dads have already expressed support as district officials consider his plan. - ➤ Temple ISD will launch new STEM initiatives after receiving a $75,000 grant from Meta+ the grant came through support from the Temple data center site, and officials said the funds will boost science and technology education+ to benefit local students. Temple Daily Telegram
- ➤ Temple Independent School District will launch new STEM initiatives next year after receiving a $75,000 grant from Meta Temple Data Center — the funding supports a summer STEM camp, teacher professional development, and portable BEAM projectors for interactive arts. KXXV
- ➤ Temple ISD received a $75,000 grant from Meta to launch three new STEM initiatives in the coming year—supporting a summer STEM camp with transportation and meals, teacher training at the National Teacher Institute for Math, and the purchase of BEAM projectors for STEAM lessons in elementary schools.
