COMMUNITY NEWS

  • David Arrevalo turned 100 years old and celebrated with family and friends at a lively mariachi party held at Rosewood Heights in Killeen (the celebration brought together multiple generations).  Temple Daily Telegram

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Seventeen Temple High School Air Force JROTC archers qualified for state and will compete at the NASP Texas State Championship at Freeman Coliseum in San Antonio March 20-21. They are coached + sponsored by TSgt. Jesus Duque, who helped launch the team last school year.  KCEN-TV

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Fort Hood’s Natural and Cultural Resources Management Branch is conducting prescribed burns in partnership with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service & Balcones Canyonlands National Wildlife Refuge to manage vegetation. The burns are ongoing as scheduled at the base.  Temple Daily Telegram

FINANCE NEWS

  • Tax experts say a new law lets hourly workers deduct part of overtime premiums to lower taxable income. Temple filers should gather pay records and consult tax professionals before the April 15 deadline — the deduction, capped at $12,500 for individuals, applies only to the premium portion of overtime pay.  KCEN-TV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Temple officials announced that nearly $90,000 will be added to Feed My Sheep & the funding will support people experiencing homelessness in the community.  Temple Daily Telegram

HEALTH NEWS

  • On Valentine’s Day, the annual Caring Ball at Temple Community Clinic raised over $350,000 to help uninsured and underinsured residents access needed health care. More than 365 community members joined the event in the heart of Temple.  Killeen Daily Herald
