  • Captain Tony Smith used TikTok to thank the military police and EMS who saved him during a near-fatal emergency at Fort Hood on June 14, 2024. He later reconnected with the responders and praised their professionalism and care.  KCEN-TV
  • The Bell County Youth Fair is set for next week at the Cadence Bank Center, where FFA students will display livestock and showcase projects (including rodeo events) for local fans.  Killeen Daily Herald

  • The Slovanska Podporujici Jednota Statu Texas Foundation is hosting a public update on plans to modernize & relocate the Czech Heritage Museum & Genealogy Center at its Temple venue so residents can learn how its new vision will shape local culture.  Temple Daily Telegram

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Beef prices in Temple are at record highs as the U.S. cattle herd hits a 75-year low due to drought and high production costs. Experts predict that prices will continue to climb in 2026 as ranchers work to rebuild herds (local auction data shows nearly a 24% jump in farm-level prices).  KCEN-TV

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Vintage Christian Academy in Harker Heights hosted a school showcase on school choice vouchers Thursday evening where families learned about new schooling options.  Killeen Daily Herald
  • Belton ISD sent a letter to parents on Wednesday evening outlining new TEA guidance on student walkouts and warning that violations could result in criminal charges or school discipline. Temple ISD continues to monitor the situation closely.  Temple Daily Telegram

  • McLennan Baseball will retire the jerseys of former Highlanders David Van Horn and Greg Dennis during a ceremony Sunday, Feb. 8 at Bosque River Ballpark at 12:30 p.m., followed by the first pitch between the Highlanders and Iowa Western Reivers at 1 p.m.  KXXV
