EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Central Texas school districts are closed today due to winter weather with Temple ISD among them. Killeen ISD canceled school (makeup day planned for Feb. 13) as transportation crews assess roads for a possible third day of closures amid freezing fog. KXXV
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Central Bell County Fire and Rescue assistant chief Kevin Burzesi rescued an injured great horned owl (nicknamed Sparky) from snowy conditions at Chalk Ridge Falls Park Tuesday at 4:45 p.m. He then coordinated with Texas Game Wardens and All About Exotic Wildlife to secure proper care for the bird. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Bell County WCID #1 has asked cities (Harker Heights, Nolanville, Killeen, Copperas Cove, and Fort Hood) to voluntarily restrict water use as the Belton Water Treatment Plant operates at reduced capacity due to repair work on its largest unit; officials note rising water flows. KCEN-TV
- ➤ Subfreezing temperatures and icy roads disrupted services in Bell County on Tuesday. Several cities will resume normal operations today (residents are urged to drive safely) as delays in trash services continue. Temple Daily Telegram
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ A systemwide boil water notice has been in effect for Hollands Quarters Water since Jan. 27 due to a pump station power outage, and residents must boil water for 2 minutes before use. Killeen Daily Herald
