  • A Texas law that would have required age checks for app downloads is blocked, shifting the responsibility of children’s online safety to parents. Many local families are now using parental controls and other measures at home to manage the content on their devices.  KXXV

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Bell County farmers will attend the Crops Conference on Jan. 14 at Seaton Star Hall for practical insight through market forecasts and herbicide updates.  Temple Daily Telegram
  • Christina Gamez, principal at Bill Burden Elementary, has been named the founding principal of the new Lariat Trails Elementary scheduled to open in August. She will remain at Bill Burden until a successor is hired to ensure a smooth transition.  Killeen Daily Herald
  • More than 700 teachers joined Temple YOUniversity’s annual event Monday in the high school parking lot, enjoying learning sessions + leisure activities as the school prepared for the return of students after break.  Temple Daily Telegram

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Concerns grow in Salado as pending wastewater permits could allow nearly 8 million gallons per day of treated sewage to flow into Salado Creek, potentially affecting recreation and aquifer recharge; residents may attend a Jan. 27 public meeting at the Salado ISD Administration Building to provide input.  KCEN-TV

HEALTH NEWS

  • Express ER and A+ Learning Academy are partnering with Carter BloodCare and Baylor Scott & White to host blood drives Thursday during National Blood Donor Month; the local drives will offer juice and cookies to donors.  Temple Daily Telegram
